The Thomas Effect is building a community where individuals and families impacted by substance use can find connection, practical resources, education, and a way forward - without shame or judgment.
We are beginning with family support groups in Fall 2026 and will expand our programs as funding, staffing, and community partnerships grow.

Substance use affects the entire family. Our family support groups will provide a welcoming place for loved ones to connect with people who understand, learn about substance use and recovery, share experiences, and find practical ways to care for themselves while supporting someone they love.

Finding Help Shouldn’t Feel Impossible
Treatment, recovery, harm reduction, mental health, reentry, and community services can be difficult to navigate. The Thomas Effect shares trusted information and helps individuals and families connect with resources that fit their circumstances and needs.
We recognize that recovery is not one-size-fits-all. Different people may need different combinations of treatment, medication, peer connection, counseling, community support, and harm-reduction services.
Change Begins With Understanding
The Thomas Effect provides community education about substance use disorder, fentanyl, stigma, medication-assisted treatment, co-occurring mental health conditions, recovery, and the barriers that keep people from seeking help.
We challenge harmful labels, replace misinformation with compassion and evidence, and advocate for systems that treat people with dignity.
Support Beyond Our Walls
Through community events, educational outreach, partnerships, and projects such as Stockings for Pine Street, The Thomas Effect meets people where they are and responds to real needs in our community.
Our outreach is grounded in a simple belief: every person deserves to feel seen, valued, and remembered.
Building With Purpose
The Thomas Effect is growing thoughtfully and responsibly. As funding and staffing become available, future programs may include:

• Peer support services
• Family education and training
• Reentry resources and navigation
• Professional training and systems improvement
• Expanded recovery and community support services
We will introduce new programs only when we have the people, resources, and structure needed to provide them well.

Our work is guided by dignity, compassion, honesty, and respect for multiple pathways to recovery. We support evidence-based treatment, medication for opioid use disorder, harm reduction, peer connection, and the right of every person to participate in decisions about their own life.
We do not define people by a diagnosis, a substance, an incarceration, a relapse, or the worst chapter of their story.
