Changing the way the world sees addiction

Educate. Empower. Redefine Recovery.

Why We Exist

Inspired by the life of Thomas Alex McConatha, The Thomas Effect is a movement to open minds, soften hearts, and end the stigma surrounding Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and its treatments and to spread awareness about the fentanyl crisis that is stealing lives at an unbelievable rate. We educate and advocate for families, for loved ones, and for those suffering with this devastating disease.

Stigma: A mark of disgrace or shame associated with a particular circumstance, quality, or person.

It keeps people sick, silent and suffering. Let’s break that silence.

The Fentanyl Crisis

Fentanyl Doesn’t Care How Good Your Kid is.

It doesn’t care if this is your first time experimenting or if you’ve been clean for years. It doesn’t care if you are a high achieving student, a parent, a professional or someone fighting to survive. It doesn’t care how much you love your family, or how badly you wanted to make it. It doesn’t even care if you meant to take it or not. Fentanyl doesn’t care about intentions and it doesn’t wait for a rock bottom.

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid up to 50 times stronger than heroin. It’s the leading cause of death for Americans ages 18 to 45. Because fentanyl is powerful, cheap and easy to get, it’s replacing drugs like heroin and is showing up in fake pills and in party drugs like ecstasy. Many people don’t realize they are taking it making it the deadliest drug in America today.

This isn’t just about addiction. Its about awareness, because right now fentanyl is touching lives across every neighborhood, every age group, and every background. If you think it can’t happen to your family, you’re exactly who needs to keep reading.
